Patrick Newcombe, an award-winning youth ornithologist, scientist and writer, will present a program on the perilous journeys of migratory birds at 1 p.m. Saturday at Samuels Public Library in Front Royal.

He will discuss the migratory patterns of bluebirds, osprey, kestrels and warblers, all found in Warren County, as well as unique birds from Tanzania.

He has won numerous awards and scholarships from the American Birding Association and the Northern Virginia Bird Club, is the editor of the Montgomery Bird Club’s quarterly newsletter and is a student at Sidwell Friends School in Washington, D.C. This summer, he will be researching manakin birds in Costa Rica. Registration to attend can be made by calling 540-635-3153.

The Round Hill Ruritan Club will hold a spring cleaning yard sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at 164 Poorhouse Road, Winchester.

5K run/walk
The Lord Fairfax Community College Wellness Committee will host its annual Wits for Wellness 5K run/walk at 9 a.m. Saturday to benefit the W. Michael Larrick Memorial Scholarship.

Registration, which will be open from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m., is $15 for LFCC faculty, staff and students and $20 for all others. All participants will receive a Wits for Wellness water glass and there will be post-race refreshments.

Shenandoah Farms Baptist Church will hold a spring crafter/vendor community yard sale and fun day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
Activities for the children include a moon bounce and a visit from Paw Patrol’s Marshall from noon to 2 p.m. Spaces still available. Information: 540-837-2295.

A free first-time homebuyer’s class will be held from 10:15 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Handley Library.

Millwood Station Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company 21 will host its annual vendor event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday featuring local crafters and direct sales companies.

The Edinburg Fire Company will sponsor a fried chicken dinner starting at 11 a.m. Sunday. The menu also includes mashed potatoes, green beans, corn, applesauce and desserts. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children.
