Dwight Yoakum to perform at Shenandoah County Fair

The Shenandoah County Fair will host Grammy award-winner Dwight Yoakum on Sept. 1, replacing Styx after the band had to cancel its performance.

Yoakum is famous for his hit songs “Fast as You” and “A Thousand Miles From Nowhere.” He has won 14 Gold and nine Platinum Albums and received the “Artists of the Year” award in 2016 from the Americana Music Honors. Last September, he released his first Bluegrass album, “Swimmin’ Pools, Movie Stars” and has appeared in films and television shows.

Tom Eshelman, general manager of the Shenandoah County Fair Association, said they felt Yoakum was a comparable entertainer to the previously booked Styx.

“Obviously a different style of music, but we wanted to make sure that whoever we booked would be a legendary performer,” he added.

Eshelman said Yoakum has never been to the Shenandoah Valley, which was another reason why the association wanted to book him for the fair.
