Pet of the Week: Fiona ready to be someone’s perfect lap cat
FRONT ROYAL – As Chelsea Whittington, a feline kennel attendant at the Humane Society of Warren County’s Julia W. Wagner Animal Shelter, was saying how Fiona the cat would fit in well in a household with other pets, she stopped and gestured toward the feline curled up for a snooze inside a cage at the facility.
“That’s pretty much what she does all day,” Whittington said with a laugh.
Only when pulled off her bed for a quick photo shoot did Fiona stir after having slept through Whittington’s recollection of the cat – estimated to be between 1 and 2 years old – being picked up as a stray and brought to the shelter in early March.
The domestic medium hair feline is now available for adoption and would make a nice, lazy companion for any prospective owner.
“I guess if somebody’s looking for like a laid-back lap cat, she would be it,” Whittington said.
Whittington described Fiona as a “really sweet” cat who loves attention. However, Whittington added that Fiona is a bit erratic when it comes to getting along with other cats.
“She kind of likes her own space,” Whittington said. “We put her in the room with other cats and as long as they don’t get right in her space she’s fine.”
Whittington said Fiona has had no apparent health issues since arriving at the shelter, adding that the feline is current on her vaccinations but will be due for boosters in several weeks. Whittington said Fiona is not spayed and added that the procedure would have to be done within 30 days of her adoption.
The Human Society of Warren County’s adoption fee for cats is $15.
