Dr. Jack Schillinger’s program on “Understanding Vladimir Putin, President of Russia” drew a crowd of 50 people on April 8 at the New Market Area Library.

Schillinger, who lives in Strasburg, covered historical and geographical information as a background to help audience members understand who Putin is and how we can better understand his actions.

Schillinger has a doctorate in Russian language and literature from the University of Wisconsin.

He and his wife Liz lived in Russian in 1970, where he directed academic year study-abroad programs for American students and conducted research. She taught at Moscow State University.
