Rotary Club awards more than $100K in scholarships
The Rotary Club of Woodstock has announced that it has awarded scholarships to area students. For more than a half century, local high school students have received assistance with college tuition from the club.
This year’s winners are Kasey Fauber, John M. Embrey Jr., Tiffany Jarrell and Emily Tiemeyer from Strasburg High School; Elizabeth French Price, Kayla Spaur, Nicole Saffell, Katelin Kline, Chelsea Pizzuto, Lauren Didawick, Heather Clem, John Paul Plunkett, Stephanie Ryman and Christopher Griggs from Central High School; and Christian Alger, Miranda Long, Moriah Seay and Ana Lazaro-Luna from Stonewall High School.
Candidates for the scholarships are interviewed by a panel of Rotarians, according to William Gentry, Chairman of the Scholarship Committee. Selection is based on grade scores, demonstrations of leadership and personal presentation.
Funding for scholarships is provided by the Rotary Club of Woodstock Foundation, an affiliate of the Rotary Club of Woodstock. The service organization has supported and served the community here for more than 80 years. Most of its 70 members are business people or professionals, active or retired.
With a mission of “Service Above Self,” club members meet each Wednesday at noon at the Moose Lodge in Woodstock.
