Response Effort Inc. appreciation night held
AIDS Response Effort Inc. thanked its volunteers during the 2013 Volunteer Appreciation Night held at the Winchester Little Theater on Sept. 4.
Presenters were Amanda Unger, A.R.E. board president; John Nagley, executive director; and Kenneth Hulse, chairman of the education and volunteer committee.
Longtime and highly respected community volunteer Cookie Oates was the keynote speaker for the evening, sharing her lifelong passion and inspiration for helping others.
Gary Wilt was honored with the 2013 Outstanding Individual Support Award, and Barry Lee for 2013 Outstanding Media Support after providing A.R.E. media coverage on radio station WINC FM and TV3’s “Talk of the Town” show.
In addition, the 2013 A.R.E. Serving in Silence Award was presented to Lisa Thayer and Tyler Thompson. The A.R.E. Serving in Silence Award is presented to volunteers who work quietly behind the scenes to facilitate, execute and donate their time and talent without need for recognition.
A.R.E. is a non-profit HIV/AIDS service organization serving Winchester and the counties of Frederick, Clarke, Warren and Shenandoah, and a portion of Page County. For information on volunteering at A.R.E., call 540-536-5291.
