On Oct. 1 the Massanutten Military Academy honor guard joined members of the Narrow Passage Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution and guests for a wreath-laying ceremony at the bust of Peter Muhlenberg on Court Square.
The event commemorated the life and legacy of Muhlenberg, arguably Woodstock’s best known parson and Revolutionary War patriot. Less than 100 feet from where the bust stands is where he preached his famous sermon in 1776, removed his clerical robes to unveil his military uniform and asked who would join him in the fight. After the war, he led a life in public service to our young nation. Oct. 1 also marked the 25th anniversary of the public dedication of the bust at Court Square.
