Bishop Loverde celebrates Mass with Sacred Heart Academy
Sacred Heart Academy has announced it hosted the Rev. Paul S. Loverde, bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Arlington, on Tuesday where he served as the main celebrant during the Mass of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, kicking off the day’s celebration of Catholic Schools Week.
The national observance, which officially began Jan. 26 and runs through Saturday, is marking its 40th anniversary. For a press release from the church, Pastor Stan Krempa said the 2014 theme, “Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service,” highlights the value that Catholic schools bring to their students and the church and the bearing they have on the over-all community.
The bishop celebrated Mass before about 200 students as well as parents, faculty and staff and members of the community. During the Mass the bishop congratulated the academy for being recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence because of its students’ overall academic achievement in math and reading. There are more than 40 schools in the Arlington Diocese, and more than half are Blue Ribbon schools.
Following the Mass, Bishop Loverde toured the academy and stopped in to visit with students during classes.
