Festival little maids announced

Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival Office has announced that six girls have been selected to serve as little maids in the Court of Queen Shenandoah LXXXVII during the festival April 25-May 4. They are Sofia Elena Aikens, Louise Strite Driscoll, Mary Keniford Wei Na Kimble, Emileigh Brooke McKay, Anneka Lin Rio and Taryn Rose Schiavone.

Sofia Aikens is the daughter of Bridget and William Aikens of Winchester. She is the granddaughter of Giselia and Mario Viegas of Vienna, Va., and Elaine and Walter Aikens of Winchester. Sofia is a first grade student at Apple Pie Ridge Elementary School. She attends Vostrikov Academy of Ballet, sings in the children’s choir at First Presbyterian Church and is a Daisy Scout. Sofia enjoys drawing, dancing and playing the piano and the mandolin. Her father, William, was a page to Queen Shenandoah LX, Candace Leona Savalas in 1987. Sofia’s grandmother, Elaine Aikens, was the festival president in 2009 and 2010.

Louise “Lulu” Driscoll is the daughter of Katie and Stephen Driscoll of McLean. She is the granddaughter of Emily and Russ Potts of Winchester and Barbara and Charles Driscoll of Williamsburg. She is a second grade student at Chesterbrook Elementary School. Lulu plays lacrosse and tennis. She is a Brownie Girl Scout and enjoys swimming and music. Her mother was a little maid to Queen Shenandoah L, Laury Boone in 1977 and maid of honor to Queen Shenandoah LXII, Emily Sikking in 1989.

Mary Kimble is the daughter of Tress and Ronnel Kimble of Winchester. Mary is the granddaughter of Kay and Murrell Bolliger of Winchester, and Cathy and Ronnel Kimble of Linville. She is a first grade student at Stonewall Elementary School. Mary is a member of Victory Church where she participates in Prims Group. She plays basketball with Parks and Rec. Mary’s mother, Tress, was a little maid to Queen Shenandoah L, Laury Boone in 1977 and maid of honor to Queen Shenandoah LXI, Mary Clancy Collins in 1988. Mary’s grandmother, Mrs. Bolliger, was the festival president in 2003 and 2004.

Emileigh McKay is the daughter of Heather and Jeff McKay of Winchester. She is the granddaughter of Carolyn and John Marker, and Cathy and Archie McKay, all of Winchester. Emileigh is a first grade student at Orchard View Elementary School. She is a member of the Spirit Kids at Round Hill United Methodist Church. She takes gymnastics lessons at Shenandoah Tumblers and enjoys reading and drawing.

Anneka Rio is the daughter of Sonja and Carleton Rio of Winchester. She is the granddaughter of John Stuart and Lynne and Carmen Rio, all of Winchester. Anneka is a first grade student at Greenwood Mill Elementary School. She participates in taekwondo and plays soccer. Her grandfather, Rio, was festival president in 2005 and 2006.

Taryn Schiavone is the daughter of Amber Schiavone and Curry Schiavone, both of Winchester. She is the granddaughter of Taren and Don Council of Stephens City and Rosie and Dan Schiavone of Winchester. Taryn is a second grade student at Indian Hollow Elementary School. She is a member of the running club and enjoys kayaking, hiking and reading.

The little maids will participate in the coronation ceremony of Queen Shenandoah LXXXVII held on May 2 at John Handley High School and ride on the queen’s float in the Grand Feature Parade.
