Rotary Club of Front Royal delivers food to needy
The Rotary Club of Front Royal has announced it delivered 141 boxes of food to needy families through its Doc Smith Christmas Basket program last month. On Dec. 20 volunteers including Rotary Club members and volunteers from Cub Scout Pack 53, American Heritage Girls Troop 1212 and the Front Royal UMC Youth Group helped pack up donated food items into gift boxes that were either picked up or delivered on Dec. 21.
The Doc Smith Baskets include ham, bread, powdered milk, stuffing mix, jelly, a bag of flour, a bag of sugar, canned vegetables and miscellaneous items.
The Doc Smith program has been a long-standing program in Front Royal. It was originated by Edgar C. Smith, Chief of Police in 1916 who was most commonly referred to as Doc Smith. The program was named after him based-on his continued service to the needy. The program typically services 100-150 families throughout Warren County.The Psi Master Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority has coordinated the program for about 30 years (1973-2003).

Girl Scout of America troops 40326 and 40120, Front Royal United Methodist Church and Youth Group and the Rotary Club of Front Royal. Axalta and Joseph F. Silek Jr. PC are platinum sponsors.
