Historical Society announces award banquet
The Shenandoah County Historical Society has announced it will hold its annual meeting and banquet at the historic Edinburg Mill on May 13. Award nominations are due by April 1.
Awards will recognize outstanding projects in the fields of history, architecture, scenic beauty and material culture including furniture, textiles, documents, folk art, photography, basketry and tools. The original or source objects must be at least 60 years old, and the preservation project must have been completed to be eligible for consideration.
An earlier awards program, established by the Shenandoah Preservation League, recognized projects like the Hottle-Keller Memorial in 2004 in recognition of its restoration of the old family homestead; and community members like Gary and Carol Rutherford, innkeepers at the Hotel Strasburg, in 2007, for retaining the Victorian charm of their historic hotel.
Nomination forms will be available throughout Shenandoah County at libraries, museums and town historical societies, or by contacting the society at 540-984-7842 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
