Meteorologist Lauryn Ricketts announced festival headliner

Lauryn Ricketts, previously of Winchester, will return as headliner of the Ladies’ Horticultural Luncheon next month, the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival office announced recently.

Ricketts, who attends the festival every year, graduated from John Handley High School in 2001 and continued her education at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland. A meteorologist, she has worked for FOX5 in Washington and for TV3 in Winchester. Last year she became broadcast meteorologist for WJLA, which also includes News Channel 8 and WTOP 103.5 FM.

While attending Daniel Morgan Middle School, Ricketts sang in the chorus for the queen’s coronation. In high school, she worked at several Apple Blossom events and was a court princess at the 75th festival. She also commentated for the Grand Feature Parade four consecutive years for local television. Returning to her hometown as an Official Festival Guest/Celebrity, she said she’s come “full circle.”

The Ladies’ Horticultural Luncheon will be from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. May 2 at the Lee Jackson/Best Western hotel, 711 Millwood Ave., Winchester. Tickets are $25. For more information, visit
