Front Royal Elks announce essay winners, award scholarships

Front Royal Elks Lodge 2382 has announced it hosted winners of the 2013-14 Americanism Essay on May 29.

There 75 family members enjoyed a spaghetti dinner before the awards were announced.

Fifth and sixth graders from E. Wilson Elementary and Warren County Middle Schools read their essays entitled, “What Does Veterans Day Mean to Me?” First place winner Mariah Cox received $100, second place winner Adrianne Kinsey received $50 and third place winner Tyler Davis received $25.

Honorable mentions went to Abby Canard, Chad Sears, Megan Compton and Christopher Striker, who received gift cards donated by Crazy Carl’s Oven Baked Subs for free subs. Crazy Carl’s also donated homemade chocolate chip cookies for everyone that evening.

Thanks went to Rose Ward, PER and North District Americanism chairman, who handed out the awards. Robert Ward, PER and State Americanism chairman was also in attendance.

Also last week, Exalted Ruler Dennis Henline attended Warren County High School where he handed out college scholarships. He awarded $1,000 scholarships to Brooke Post and Joshua Owens. On May 27, he attended awards ceremony at Skyline High School and gave $1,000 scholarships to Sarah Dodge and Dustin Weir. He also gave a $500 scholarship to Matthew Winters. Front Royal Elks Lodge 2382 has awarded $4,500 to local seniors this year.
