Golf tourney raises money for children
Golfers enjoyed a day on the course and local children’s programs received $7,000 in additional funding as a result of the 27th Annual Golf Tournament sponsored by the Rotary Club of Woodstock in June at the Shenvalee Golf Resort in New Market.
This year’s event was dedicated to long time Rotarian George Sheetz, a co-chairman of the tournament for more than 20 years. A special putting contest was held in his memory, with funds raised donated to the school breakfast program, which Sheetz strongly supported.
Co-chairs of the tournament were Blake Phillips, Carter Knapp and Kevin Gutshall. A total of 68 golfers participated. The corporate sponsor was Grubbs Chevrolet and the title sponsors were DuPont Community Credit Union, Laughlin Auctions/Pirtle Construction and Paul Davis Restoration.
Tournament proceeds will benefit the Boy Scouts, the Woodstock/Edinburg Little League and the Dictionary Project at W.W. Robinson Middle School.
“This fundraiser is hot on the tail of the $24,000 in college scholarships donated by the Rotary Clubs of Shenandoah Valley,” Kevin Gutshall, incoming president of the Woodstock Club, stated in a press release.
