Area non-profits invited to nominate outstanding volunteers
WINCHESTER — Outstanding fundraising volunteers from the non-profit community will once again be recognized on National Philanthropy Day, to be celebrated at a special luncheon on Nov. 14 at Millwood Station.
The Association of Fundraising Professionals, Tri-State Chapter, will act as host for the event. National Philanthropy Day is set aside to recognize and pay tribute to the great contributions that philanthropy –Â and those people active in the philanthropic community — have made to their communities and the world.
“We are so excited to be preparing for this very popular event,” event chair Jenny Grooms, who is the director of development at Valley Health, stated in a news release. “Last year’s event was a sell-out, so we hope to be able to recognize even more outstanding volunteers at this larger venue.”
More than 150 representatives from the non-profit community, as well as their volunteers, attended the luncheon last year. Twenty-five outstanding volunteers were recognized.
Tri-State AFP president Maria Lorensen, development director for Hospice of the Panhandle, said the chapter hopes to have at least 35 outstanding volunteers from the non-profit community nominated and recognized at this year’s event.
Non-profits from the tri-state, who need not be members of AFP, can nominate one outstanding volunteer per agency. The process is not competitive — each volunteer will be recognized with a medallion, corsage/boutonniere, photograph with his or her nominator and a special luncheon. Cost for the luncheon is $35 per attendee until Oct. 14, and $40 per attendee after Oct. 14. Also to be recognized at the luncheon will be an outstanding corporate and individual philanthropist of the year. These awards are competitive.
“We know there are so many non-profits out there who have a volunteer they’d like to recognize,” Lorensen said. “This is a wonderful way to show that special volunteer how much he or she is appreciated.”
To nominate, go to the AFP website at http://afpnet.org/npdtristate to fill out the basic information about your volunteer, and describe in 60 words why he or she is outstanding. Nominations are due Oct. 3.
The chapter is also seeking sponsorships from the business community. For more information about sponsorship opportunities, contact John Warren at 540-664-6663.
