Debate team wins

Lord Fairfax Community College’s speech/drama debate team brought home five first-place awards and placed fourth in overall team sweeps in the Collegiate Forensics Association’s first tournament of the year at Fayetteville State University in Fayetteville, N.C.

According to a news release, first-place team members and their awards are:

  • Zach Almquist, of Mount Jackson, single dramatic interpretation.
  • Sunniva Moore, of Linden, single dramatic interpretation and third in declamation.
  • Kelsey Owens, of Clearbook, poetry and third in persuasive speaking.
  • Rebekah Pennington, of Front Royal, informative speaking and fourth in single dramatic interpretation and sixth in declamation.
  • Colt Scott, of Strasburg, prose and declmation.

Other students participating were Kayla Duncan, of Stephens City, poetry; Tony Salazar, of Woodstock, declamation; and Derek Sawyer. of Woodstock, impromptu speaking.
