Apple Blossom maids of honor

Four Winchester area women have been selected to serve as Maids for the Court of Queen Shenandoah LXXXVIII during the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival April 24 through May 3. They are:

Glen Carmichael, the daughter of Maribeth and Andrew Carmichael of Winchester and granddaughter of Linda and Roger Milburn of Winchester and Sheila and John Carmichael of Liverpool, England, is a freshman at Radford University, where she is majoring in English education. She is a Millbrook High School graduate.

Aleksa Putnam, the daughter of Shari and Ronnie Putnam of Winchester and granddaughter of Donna and Wayne Anthony and Golda and Ron Putnam, all of Winchester, is a freshman at Virginia Tec, where she is majoring in psychology. She is a John Handley High School graduate.

Emily Smith, the daughter of Kaye and Gerald Smith of Winchester and the granddaughter of Polly and Linwood DeHaven and Dolores Smith, all of Winchester, and the late Gerald I. Smith, is a freshman at the University of Virginia, where she is majoring in business. She is a John Handley High School graduate.

Taylor Winters, the daughter of Gail and Lloyd Winters of Winchester and the granddaughter of Virginia and James Orndorff and Cecelia and David Winters, all of Gore, is a freshman at Lord Fairfax Community College, where she is majoring in elementary education. She is a James Wood High School graduate.

The women will participate in the queen’s coronation ceremony on May 1 at John Handley High School and will ride on the queen’s float in the Grand Feature Parade.
