Winchester Friends of the Chelsea Hutchison Foundation, a national nonprofit organization that raises awareness of Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy, held an event Nov. 12 at the George Washington Hotel in Winchester. Steven and Carol Shafran, who organized the event, invited community members to an evening at the hotel so that they could learn more about epilepsy and SUDEP, according to a news release.
Barry Lee, radio host with Winchester FM Radio 92.5, introduced Winchester Mayor Elizabeth Minor, who presented a proclamation designating November as Epilepsy Awareness Month. She cited work the foundation provides in educating area residents about epilepsy, the raising of funds for trained seizure dogs and special monitors, and this year’s Walk for Epilepsy held at the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley.
