Rotary Club delivers food to needy families

Rotary Club of Front Royal Chairman Bret Hrbek announced the club delivered 153 boxes of food to needy families last month through its Doc Smith Christmas Basket program.

The program was started by Edgar C. Smith, Front Royal police chief in 1916 who was most commonly referred to as Doc Smith.

The Psi Master chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority coordinated this program for about 30 years beginning in 1973. In 2003, the sorority asked the Rotary Club to take it over.

This year’s donors included Martin’s Grocery, Front Royal United Methodist Church Men and Women, Phi Epsilon chapter of Beta Sigma Tau Sorority, Edward Jones, Warren County Public School teachers and students and the Rotary Club of Front Royal.
