Bright Box to offer new dining options

The Bright Box Theater in Winchester will bolster its dining operation with the opening of the Bistro Room on Sept. 8 for lunch. It will be located in a room formerly used exclusively for private parties. The Old Town performance venue will also be rolling out a new menu the following day.

Located on the main floor of Bright Box, the Bistro Room also offers patio seating and pickup service.

According to a news release, the new dining area will be decorated with communication and radio equipment, and diners will be serenaded by recordings of past Bright Box performers.

Executive Chef Jessamy Oxley explained the reason behind the new space.

“Our kitchen has been called Bright Bistro now for the last year and a half and we decided to expand the name for the lunch room,” Oxley stated in an email. “I have been at Bright Box for the last two and a half months, in which time I have been creating the new menus for lunch, the venue, and private parties.”

“I would say the concept for the menus is quirky with a new americana flair,” Oxley stated. “The Bright Box Theater is constantly changing and providing many different shows and entertainment, so I wanted the new menus to highlight that. We are bringing in fresh and locally sourced ingredients for our dishes, all which will be made in house. Many of the dishes will rotate throughout the year to highlight different ingredients that are in season.”

That quirky food with a new Americana flair will take the shape of some interesting, albeit tasty-sounding, offerings. Oxley’s favorite one is especially interesting. She said that the diversity of the theater’s performances served as inspiration for the Bistro Room’s menu.

“I would say I am most excited about the Roast Beef ‘Tot-Wich,’ my play on the classic French Dip sandwich, but using tater tots as the breading, as well as a few new items featuring in-house smoked duck,” she stated.

Oxley also said that plans are in the works for a garden space where staff will be able to grow vegetables to be used in the Bistro Room’s kitchen, which has been enhanced.
