Just ducky: New Front Royal eatery hopes to fill a niche
FRONT ROYAL Success for The Wine and Duck will be measured by the area's ability to change its attitude.
Although the menu is not too duck-heavy, the restaurant's name does not hide what makes it unique to the area. For The Wine and Duck to find a niche, people will have to shed the initial scoffing at the idea of eating Donald and Daffy.

WINCHESTER A new company offers homeowners an effective way to put a durable and decorative surface on concrete.
Winchester-based Blackwater Design Concrete Coatings has been operating since March. The company uses a spray to coat existing concrete to make the surface more durable and create patterns and logos in any color the homeowner wants.

Arthritis walk planned: Local event set as chairwoman will be recipient of national award
WINCHESTER On May 17, when the fourth annual Northern Shenandoah Valley Arthritis Walk is taking place at Sherando High School in Stephens City, Julie Rhyne will not be there.
The Winchester resident, and chairwoman of the walk, who has been part of the planning committee since it began four years ago, will instead be in Orange County, Calif., to receive an award and attend an arthritis walk on the West Coast as one of the two 2009 National Honorees of the National Arthritis Foundation.

Doggone life: Couple bring biker Chihuahua with them on rides
BENTONVILLE With his tiny snout poking out from under sunglasses, a do-rag and a personalized motorcycle helmet, Isaiah, a 7-year-old leather-clad Chihuahua, has become a well-known face in the biker community.
His owners, Carol and Buddy Sours of Bentonville, have been bringing him along with them on rides through the countryside and in charity events for three years, but Isaiah has long been a part of the Sourses' excursions into the wild.
