Funk-Skeen Gary and Jackie Funk of Strasburg have announced the engagement of their daughter, Kristen Nichole, to Justin William Skeen, son of Leonard and Robin Skeen of Elkton, Md. Miss Funk, a 2005 graduate of Strasburg High School, is a certified chiropractic assistant at Multi-Specialty Health in Baltimore. Mr. Skeen, a 2005 graduate of Greater Grace Christian Academy, is a student at Stevenson University. He is employed by Lowe's. A May 14 wedding is planned.... comments

Wedding

Downey-Mahanes Jina Michelle Downey and Randy John Mahanes were married Aug. 27 in Woodstock. The bride is the daughter of Roberta Cyr of Woodstock. The groom is the son of Carole Mahanes of Edgewater, Fla. Magistrate Claudia Grey performed the double-ring ceremony. Music was provided by Bucket Head. Given in marriage by her daughters, the bride wore a strapless corset-style satin black gown with a white flowing skirt with black velvet flowers. She carried a bouquet of white hydrangeas and red roses. The matron of honor was Bobbi Lynn Strother of Edinburg, sister of the bride. The maid of honor was Lindsey Elizabeth Cyr of Maurertown, sister of the bride. Bridesmaids were Taylor Rae Mahanes, Reese Elizabeth Mahanes and Randi Lee Mahanes. They each wore a black satin dress and carried a nosegay of white hydrangeas and red roses. A barbecue cookout followed at the home of the bride's mother. Prenuptial entertainment included a bachelorette party given by Bobbi Strother, Lindsey Cyr and April Hupp. The couple attended Central High School. Keister-Trodden Sarah Marie Keister and Thomas Joseph Trodden IV were married Aug. 7 at the Christ Memorial Presbyterian Church in Columbia, Md. The bride is the daughter of Jan and David Keister of Laurel, Md., and the granddaughter of the Rev. Dr. and Mrs. John D. Keister of Strasburg and Dr. William R. Greco of Silver Spring, Md. The groom is the son of Sally and Tom Trodden of Lanham, Md. The Rev. Craig Barton and the Rev. Keister performed the double-ring ceremony. Musicians were Joy Exner, pianist/organist; the Antares Musicians, string trio; and Andrew Exner, soloist. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a strapless, A-line gown of off-white silk Faille with an asymmetrically folded neckline, ruched natural waist and an asymmetrical bow in back. She wore a matching double-layer cage veil and carried a bouquet of mixed pink and green summer flowers including gerbera daisies and spider mums. The maid of honor was Elise Keller. Bridesmaids were Allie Sfekas and Lindsay Sfekas, cousins of the bride, and Jacki Bower, Nicole Hovermale, Sarah Milligan and Leslie Fox. Sibert anniversary Karen and Raymond Sibert Jr. of Front Royal celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on Aug. 22 at a surprise party at the home of their niece, Shana Smoot. The party was also given by their daughter, Rachel Wines, her husband, Charles, and their son, Zachary Sibert. The couple were married Aug. 24, 1985. Mrs. Sibert is the former Karen Dawson. About 50 people attended. They plan an anniversary trip to a Luray bed and breakfast.... comments

The bride is the daughter of Zelda Zadnik of Strasburg and Lyn Uttal of Winchester. The groom is the son of Pierre and Mary-Claude Aubert of Vaumarcus, Switzerland. Brenda Berry performed the double-ring ceremony. Allen Dec was harpist. The bride wore an ivory satin formal-length gown with full-length veil and carried a bouquet of cream-colored roses and hydrangeas. The matron of honor was Emily Powell of Winchester. The best man was Alain Borel of Neuchatel, Switzerland. The flower girl was Madison Cowie, cousin of the bride. A reception followed. The bride, a 2006 graduate of Handley High School, earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Mount Holyoke College. She will teach math at St. George's School in Neuchatel. The groom is the son of Ralph and Phyllis Foltz of Woodstock. Magistrate Dianna Jett performed the ceremony. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore an ivory satin gown with beaded straps and a short train and carried a bouquet of spring flowers. The matron of honor was Summer Andes of Woodstock.
