Anniversary

Sibert anniversary Karen and Raymond Sibert Jr. of Front Royal celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on Aug. 22 at a surprise party at the home of their niece, Shana Smoot. The party was also given by their daughter, Rachel Wines, her husband, Charles, and their son, Zachary Sibert. The couple were married Aug. 24, 1985. Mrs. Sibert is the former Karen Dawson. About 50 people attended. They plan an anniversary trip to a Luray bed and breakfast.... comments

Uttal-Aubert Cerena Mali Uttal and Yann Amael Aubert were married Aug. 7 at the Unitarian Universalist Church at Stephens City. The bride is the daughter of Zelda Zadnik of Strasburg and Lyn Uttal of Winchester. The groom is the son of Pierre and Mary-Claude Aubert of Vaumarcus, Switzerland. Brenda Berry performed the double-ring ceremony. Allen Dec was harpist. The bride wore an ivory satin formal-length gown with full-length veil and carried a bouquet of cream-colored roses and hydrangeas. The matron of honor was Emily Powell of Winchester. The best man was Alain Borel of Neuchatel, Switzerland. The flower girl was Madison Cowie, cousin of the bride. A reception followed. The bride, a 2006 graduate of Handley High School, earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Mount Holyoke College. She will teach math at St. George's School in Neuchatel. The groom, a veteran of the Swiss military, is a student at the University of Neuchatel, majoring in political science. Following a wedding trip to Williamsburg, the couple will live in Neuchatel. Colby-Furneisen Julie Denise Colby and Craig Steven Furneisen Jr. were married Aug. 7 in at outdoor wedding at the home of his grandparents in Franconia. The bride is the daughter... comments

Strother-Apger Betty Strother of Strasburg and Charles Carter of Winchester have announced the engagement of their daughter, Ashley L'erin Strother, to Robert Earl Apger, son of Karen Chapin and William Apger of Michigan. Miss Strother, a 2000 graduate of Strasburg High School, is employed by Shenandoah University and Home Instead Senior Care. Mr. Apger, a 1999 graduate of Houghton (Mich.) Rakes-Foltz Mackenzie Dalton Rakes and Andrew Michael Foltz were married June 12 at the Stultz farm at Woodstock. The bride is the daughter of Garry and Cheryl Rakes of Front Royal. The groom is the son of Ralph and Phyllis Foltz of Woodstock. Magistrate Dianna Jett performed the ceremony. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore an ivory satin gown with beaded straps and a short train and carried a bouquet of spring flowers. The matron of honor was Summer Andes of Woodstock. Bridesmaids were Ashley Gatchell of Maurertown, Melinda Gowens of Edinburg, Brandy Carter of Winchester and Mary Westcott of Washington, D.C. All the attendants wore sun dresses and flip-flops. The best man was Brian Foltz of Edinburg, brother of the groom. Groomsmen were J.J. Gatchell of Maurertown, John Andes, Josh Reedy and Steve Foltz, brother of the groom, all of Woodstock, and Lee Marcey of Winchester. The flower girl was Olivia Gatchell. Jackson have announced the engagement of their daughter, Diane Marie Ludwig, to David Wave Riley Jr., son of Connie Riley and Dr. David Riley of Lynchburg. Miss Ludwig, who earned a bachelor's degree in liberal arts from Eastern Mennonite University, is a cardiology marketing associate at Centra Health. Mr. Riley, who earned an associate degree in horticulture from Virginia Tech, is a dental lab technician. A Sept. 10 wedding is planned. Rachel E. Sihler David A. Shoemaker Wayne and Teresa Sihler of Maurertown have announced the engagement of their daughter, Rachel Ellen, to David Allen Shoemaker, son of Robert and Robin Shoemaker of Edinburg. Miss Sihler, a graduate of Central High School, earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Shenandoah University. She is a second-grade teacher at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Shiley-Clarke Mr. and Mrs. Rudy Shiley of Winchester have announced the engagement of their daughter, Stephanie Leigh, to Thomas Luke Clarke Jr., son of Jamie Lynn Romantic and Thomas L. Clarke Sr. of Winchester. Miss Shiley, a 2009 graduate of West Virginia University with a bachelor's degree in child development and family studies, is pursuing a master's degree at West Virginia University. Mr. Clarke, a specialist in the 157th Army National Guard Unit in Martinsburg, W.Va., completed a military tour in Iraq in October. He is a student at West Virginia University. A June wedding is planned. Law-Stadler Mr. and Mrs. Donald Law of Stephens City have announced the engagement of their daughter, Sara Renee, to William James Stadler of Martinsburg, W.Va. Katrina Mattingly and Barry Whittington Jr. were married June 26 at the Izaak Walton League in Winchester. The bride is the daughter of Darlene Hamilton of White Post and James Mattingly Jr. of Chaptico, Md. The groom is the son of Joseph and Susan Buckler of Leonardtown, Md. Magistrate Teresa Frederick performed the double-ring ceremony. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a white satin floor-length gown with a train and ivory embroidery. She wore a rhinestone tiara with a tiered veil and carried a bouquet of green and white roses. The matron was of honor was Tonya Knott of Newburg, Md. She wore a green floor-length spaghetti-strap dress and carried a bouquet of green and white roses. The maid of honor was Jenny Ashwood of Stephens City. Ammons anniversary Sterling and Beverly Ammons of Front Royal celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on June 19 at a reception, given by their daughters, at their home. The couple were married June 16, 1950, in York, S.C., by the Rev. R.A. Hodge. They have four daughters, 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. A total of 32 people attended. Ladehoff anniversary Retired Col. and Mrs. Harold L. Ladehoff of Woodstock celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on July 5 at a luau, sponsored by the Hale Koa Hotel, on Oahu, Hawaii. They were presented with orchid leis and were serenaded by Glenn Medeiros. The couple were married June 16, 1960, in Washingtonville, N.Y., by the Rev. Stephen Garrison. They have a daughter, Melissa Folz of Alexandria, and a son, Patrick Ladehoff of Venice Fla., and two grandchildren. About 800 people attended.... comments

Miss Davis, also the daughter of the late Edwin Davis Jr., is a 1997 graduate of Warren County High School and a 2002 graduate of George Mason University. She is an IT consultant at ICF International in Fairfax. Mr. Smith, a 1996 graduate of Handley High School and a 2001 graduate of Lord Fairfax Community College, is a facilities technician at Savvis Communications in Sterling. Miss VerSchneider, a 2009 graduate of the State University of New York at Potsdam, is employed by the Arc Oneida-Lewis Chapter.
