Bonnie Blue Southern Market & Bakery of Winchester was featured in the New York Times article “13 Essential Barbecue Stops” that was published in the Sunday Travel Section.

The eatery was singled out as having the best collard greens between New York City and Memphis, Tennessee. It also noted that Bonnie Blue’s buttermilk biscuits and sausage gravy was a “tremendous wake up meal.”

The kitchen is led by chef Brian Pellatt, who has prepared meals for many country music stars, including Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Kenny Rogers, Travis Tritt and Vince Gill.

Our Health
Elizabeth “Lizzy” Orndorff has been appointed the new part-time coordinator at Our Health’s Volunteer Action Center.

Orndorff will recruit and supervise volunteers for more than 75 nonprofit and public service partners. She replaces Dan Rose, who has managed the center for more than four years. He remains as the full-time director of buildings and grounds services for the Our Health campus.

Ordorff has served three different internships with the agency since 2014. She is a 2016 graduate of Shenandoah University’s public health program and has assisted Our Health with grant writing, public relations, the Volunteer Action Center, social media and special events. She will also continue to write and administer grants and assist with marketing and public relations.

She will continue her part-time work at Blue Ridge Pediatric Associates, where she has worked for 5five years with Dr. Daniel Schiavone and Dr. Gita Haddadi.

Farm Bureau
Shenandoah County cattle and grain producer Peter A. Truban, of Woodstock, was elected this week to a third three-year term on the Virginia Farm Bureau Federation Board of Directors at its annual convention in Hot Springs.

As a board member, Truban will represent Farm Bureau producer members in Clarke, Frederick, Loudoun, Page, Rappahannock, Shenandoah and Warren counties.

He chairs the bureau’s Land Use Advisory Committee and is a member of the the bureau’s Soybean & Feed Grains & Grain Marketing Advisory Committee and National Affairs Committee.

Truban has been involved with Farm Bureau for more than 30 years. He is a past president of Shenandoah County Farm Bureau and serves on that organization’s board. He previously served as a county committee member for the Shenandoah and Northern Counties Farm Service Agency, on Virginia Cooperative Extension’s Advisory Committee and is a trustee at Woodstock United Methodist Church. He operates his family’s farm, Jadwyn Acres Farms Inc., a 300-head cattle operation, and also grows small grains, hay and corn.
