Cooperative holds second annual Market Showcase
Rockingham Cooperative will host its second annual Market Showcase in Harrisonburg from 1-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Rockingham County Fairgrounds.
Gale Billhimer, purchasing and marketing manager for Rockingham Cooperative, explained what attendees can expect.
“The concept of a market showcase is to bring in quite a few of our suppliers into one central location where our patrons can visit with them for two things – for product knowledge for new items that are coming down the road and then also with the market showcase comes the opp where the patron can buy at reduced prices while they’re at the show,” he said.
Featured this year will be Lisa Steele, a well-known enthusiast of raising backyard poultry. She has also written books on the subject and maintains a popular blog. Billhimer said Steele will be giving two seminars – one at 2 p.m. and the other at 6 p.m. She will also be signing books and answering questions one-on-one during the other portions of the event.
Billhimer explained the kind of people who might have an interest in attending the showcase.
“We’re covering all aspects of the agricultural end but also for the homeowner or the hobbyist,” he said. “We’ll have large displays of hand tools and also we’ll have (items) for the typical homeowner that maybe doesn’t have a facility for livestock or poultry. We’ll have things for wild birds and bird feeding. We’ll have several displays for the pet owner, dogs and cats and several things related to horses. And also for the farmer that does have large livestock, were going to have a large arena of cattle working equipment.”
There will also be an educational portion of the event where customers will be able to learn more about new products sold at this year’s showcase and have questions answered about items that they already own.
Billhimer said there will be another showcase during the same times on Thursday at the Salem Civic Center in Salem for the cooperative’s southern customers. Steele will be speaking and signing books at that event as well.
