Great Scott

While former Sherando High School standout Ross Metheny was getting his first taste of collegiate football action for Virginia in the Cavaliers' 48-7 home victory over VMI on Saturday, another former area star was putting in another predictably solid effort for the Keydets.

Senior wide receiver Mario Scott, a 2007 graduate of Randolph-Macon Academy, did a credible impression of former Yellow Jackets and VMI standout return specialist Tim Maypray, who is currently returning kicks for the CFL's Montreal Alouettes. With the Cavaliers scoring at will, Scott stayed plenty busy returning kicks for the Keydets. Scott totaled a team-high five kickoff returns for 130 yards, including a 45-yarder late in the third quarter. Scott, last year's leading receiver, added a catch for nine yards to lead the Keydets in total offense against Virginia.

So far this season, the 5-foot-11, 175-pound Scott has four receptions for 47 yards and has returned 10 kicks for 214 yards (21.4 yards per return).

VMI (1-2) is back in action on Saturday, hosting Presbyterian in a 1:30 p.m. game in Lexington.
