A host of talented two-year-olds will be on display in Saturday night's $100,000 Tri-State Futurity at Charles Town Races.
Headlining the list is Maryland-bred stakes winner Steady Warrior, which already this season has notched a 7 1/2-length victory in the $100,000 Maryland Million Nursery. Trained by Gary Capuano (who also co-owns in partnership with Z W P Stable), Steady Warrior will try to follow in the footsteps of his sire Cherokee's Boy, who won the Futurity in 2002.
As part of a combined entry (along with Bumpy Road) and with top jockey Travis Dunkelberger in the saddle, Steady Warrior figures to be a solid favorite.
The top competition could come from trainer John A. Casey's colt Just Your Way, which finished second behind Golden Set in the Vincent Moscarelli Breeders' Classic last month.
The Futurity, which was first run in 1962, is a seven-furlong race open to two-year-olds bred in Maryland, Virginia or West Virginia.
The Futurity is the eighth of a nine-race card, and is slated to run at approximately 10:25 p.m. Saturday. Racing begins on Saturday at 7:15 p.m. at Charles Town.
