Keeping in touch

Former Strasburg resident Dylan Settle recently signed his national letter-of-intent to play collegiate baseball at Indian Hills Junior College in Centreville, Iowa.

Settle, whose father Adam Settle worked as a Strasburg policeman, moved to Colorado just more than three years ago. Dylan Settle still has family in the area, and is interested in returning to Strasburg in the summer to play in the Valley Baseball League -- especially for the new Strasburg Express franchise. Settle played junior varsity baseball at Strasburg High School as an eighth-grader. He also played Little League baseball in both Front Royal and Strasburg.

At Class 5-A Coronado High School in Colorado Springs, Colo., Settle has been a starter since his freshman year, earning three straight team MVP honors as well as all-area and all-league recognition each year. Additionally, Settle made academic all-state last year.

Settle, who chose Indian Hills in part because it reminded him of the small-town atmosphere of Strasburg, will receive a two-year, full scholarship to the school. Indian Hills, a strong junior college program, has had at least one alumnus playing at the Major League Baseball level for the past 20 years and counting. Settle, who had other scholarship offers and interest from two NCAA Division I schools, signed his letter-of-intent on Jan. 15.
