Former Randolph-Macon Academy and VMI standout Tim Maypray had an active night in Thursday's season-opening Canadian Football League game.
Maypray, a kick return specialist for the defending Grey Cup champion Montreal Alouettes, had five total returns in a 30-26 victory over the visiting British Columbia Lions. Maypray had three kick returns for 52 total yards (17.3 yards per return) and added a pair of punt returns for 38 yards (19.0 average).
A native of Hopkinsville, Ky., the 5-foot-8, 170-pound Maypray was the Alouettes' top return specialist as a rookie. Last season, he had 44 kickoff returns for 1,037 yards (23.6 average), which ranked second among all CFL returners, and 43 punt returns for 337 yards (7.8 average). Maypray also tied a Montreal record for most yards on a missed field goal return (125) in a July 1 game against Saskatchewan.
