Ahrnsbrak misses cut at national championship
Winchester's Mike Ahrnsbrak fired a second-round 79 at Creighton Farms Golf Course to miss the cut for this weekend's final two rounds of the Southworth Senior PGA Professional National Championship.
Ahrnsbrak, the PGA general manager and head professional at Blue Ridge Shadows Golf Club in Front Royal, carded a two-day total of 155 to miss the cut by five strokes. Ahrnsbrak had a 76 in Thursday's first round at River Creek Club in Leesburg.
Past champion Kirk Hanefield of Acton, Mass., stretched his lead to six strokes after firing a 5-under-par 67 at Creighton Farms to register a tournament-record 11-under-par 133 total through two rounds. Robert Linville of Greensboro, N.C., is second with a 139.
The final two rounds will be played on the Creighton Farms course in Aldie. The top 35 finishers earn automatic spots for the 2012 Senior PGA Championship at The Golf Club at Harbor Shores in Benton Harbor, Mich.
