STRASBURG -- Not only is Jody Lynn Bradley a murderer, he's also a hypocrite. Those are the charges his daughter and his ex-wife leveled against Bradley, convicted last week by a Shenandoah County Circuit Court jury of second-degree murder. They are outraged the jury recommended he only serve nine years in prison for shooting to death Brendon Manning Barker, 16, plus three years on a gun charge.

WOODSTOCK -- Ambulances are spending longer periods out of the county as patients are being taken to hospitals in Winchester and Harrisonburg, Shenandoah County Department of Fire and Rescue Chief Gary Yew said at the Board of Supervisors' public safety and code committee meeting Tuesday.

FRONT ROYAL -- A 17-year-old boy who helped four other juveniles orchestrate an armed robbery of a 7-Eleven in March must serve seven years in prison for his role in the plot, a Warren County Circuit Court judge ruled Tuesday.

WINCHESTER -- Justin Shane Slater is incompetent to stand trial for the June slayings of his brother and ex-girlfriend, a doctor has found.

HARRISONBURG -- A U.S. District Court jury has convicted the last defendant charged in a large-scale 2006 drug raid on Cartwright's Recreation Center in Winchester.

(Updated 8:55 p.m.) WOODSTOCK -- A Shenandoah County Circuit Court jury has found Jody Lynn Bradley guilty of second-degree murder in the slaying of his daughter's boyfriend, and recommended that he serve a total of 12 years in prison.

WOODSTOCK -- Jurors will resume deliberating the fate of confessed killer Jody Lynn Bradley when they return to Shenandoah County Circuit Court this morning.

Virginia's financial picture has continued to deteriorate, requiring another $1.5 billion to be cut from the fiscal 2010 budget, Democratic Gov. Timothy M. Kaine said Wednesday.
