(Updated 12:45 p.m.) WINCHESTER -- Justin Shane Slater could face a charge of assaulting jail officers at a local hospital earlier this month.
Bruce Conover, superintendent of the Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center, told the Regional Jail Authority at its meeting this morning that the facility recently experienced an act of violence that involved personnel and that he expected authorities to seek an indictment in the incident.
Conover confirmed after the meeting that the suspect was Slater, currently held at the jail on charges of first-degree murder and a related firearm offense related to the June 10 shooting death of his brother, Gregory Scott Slater.
The incident allegedly happened at Winchester Medical Center about a week and a half to two weeks ago, Conover said. No one was injured, the superintendent said.
But during the incident, Slater is said to have tried to grab the gun of one of the jail officers overseeing the man's hospital visit, Conover said.
Slater could be indicted Tuesday by a grand jury in Winchester Circuit Court.
According to online circuit court records, authorities will seek indictments against Slater for two counts of attempting to disarm a correctional officer, two counts of assault and battery of a law enforcement officer and one count of attempted escape.
