WINCHESTER -- The Frederick County Department of Public Safety Communications will start a new emergency notification system on Thursday.
The AlertFrederickCounty system, provided by Twenty First Century Communications of Columbus, Ohio, can send voice, text, e-mail and TTY/TDD messages to residents during emergencies using a combination of telephone databases and Geographic Information System technology, according to a department news release.
The "multimodal" communication system works with landlines, cell and Voice Over Internet Protocol phones.
Residents can register online at www.co.frederick.va.us under Frederick County Emergency Notification. Persons who do not have Internet access may call the Department of Public Safety Communications 665-6356.
