*Swafford resigns Strasburg council seat

(12:45 p.m.) STRASBURG -- Vice Mayor Carlyle Swafford has resigned his seat on Strasburg's Town Council.
According to his resignation letter to Mayor Tim Taylor, which is dated Aug. 21, Swafford accepted a job in Philadelphia and was scheduled to begin work there today.
"It is with a deep sense of sadness, that I must notify you and the Town Council, that I will be forced to resign my elected seat on the Strasburg Town Council," Swafford writes. His resignation became effective at 12:01 a.m. Sunday.
He writes that "it has been a honor to represent all the citizens of Strasburg." Swafford was elected to the council in May 2008.
"I appreciate my peers on the Council listening to my ideas and points of view with an open mind as I did for them, I will sincerely miss the debates," Swafford writes.
