Vehicle runs off road, into building

WOODSTOCK -- A vehicle struck the county's Adult Probation and Parole Office, at 101 S. Main St., on Wednesday night, according to state police.
A 1994 Ford Bronco, driven by Johnathan Riggs, 28, was traveling north on U.S. 11 at about 10:30 p.m. when it ran off the road and struck a tree, a fire hydrant and then the building, Trooper A.C. Galton said.
Riggs "managed to back out of the building," he said, but when he tried to turn onto East Court Street he had "no steerage" and struck a utility pole.
"Our initial investigation seems to be indicating a mechanical problem in the vehicle's steerage," Galton said. "At this point, we've got charges pending."
No one was injured in the incident, he said, and speed was not a factor. Galton said he was unsure of the extent of the damage to the building, but "it didn't appear that the building inspector had a real issue with it."
