WINCHESTER -- A city man must serve prison time for his role in a gang-related attack on two other people in January.
Judge John Wetsel Jr. sentenced Hector Manuel Espinosa, 21, of 630 Smithfield Ave., in Winchester Circuit Court on Tuesday to 10 years in prison on each of two counts of malicious wounding by mob. The judge suspended five years of each term.
Wetsel also sentenced Espinosa to five-year terms for one count each of conspiring to commit malicious wounding, illegal gang participation and a Dec. 23 felony shoplifting charge. The judge ordered all sentences to run concurrently.
Espinosa must serve five years of supervised probation upon his release.
Wetsel dismissed Espinosa's remaining two counts of malicious wounding, conspiracy and gang participation as part of a plea agreement reached between the commonwealth and his attorney.
Authorities accused Espinosa and others of attacking two victims with baseball bats and other objects at an Armour Dale Drive residence on Jan. 7.
The incident began after one of the victims accused a defendant in the case of not being "a real gang member," according to Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Jason Caccamo. The assault left both victims with serious injuries, Caccamo has said.
Felipe Arellano-Aguire, 20, of 10783 Browns Gap Road, Grottoes, received a 10-year prison term, with seven years suspended, for each of two counts of malicious wounding by mob and for one count each of illegal gang participation and conspiracy to commit malicious wounding.
Arellano-Aguire also must serve five years of supervised probation upon his release.
A plea agreement reached between the commonwealth and Arellano-Aguire's attorney, William Crane, specified the sentences the judge ordered to run concurrently. The judge dismissed two counts of malicious wounding and one count each of gang participation, conspiracy to commit malicious wounding and wearing a mask in public. Authorities say Arellano-Aguire is a member of the Sureno-13 street gang.
Cesar Enrique Reveles, 19, of 630 Smithfield Ave., Winchester, received 12 months in jail, all suspended, for misdemeanor assault and battery by mob, reduced from malicious wounding by mob. The judge deferred disposition of a second count of the same offense to Jan. 10.
Reveles must serve one year of unsupervised probation.
Adrian Cuvas, 20, of 202 Chestnut St., Winchester, received five-year terms, all suspended, for each of two counts of unlawful wounding, reduced from malicious wounding. He also must serve four years of supervised probation upon release.
The judge dismissed as part of a plea agreement Cuvas' remaining two counts of conspiracy to commit malicious wounding by mob.
Neither Cuvas nor Reveles were charged as members of Sureno-13.

Laughable sentences, as usual.
