(11:55 a.m.) FORT VALLEY -- The proposed regional jail, other capital-improvement spending, and landfill accessibility were on the minds of residents at a Fort Valley Ruritan Club forum Monday night for candidates running for the District 4 Board of Supervisors' seat.
Incumbent Sharon Baroncelli was joined by Democrat James Fitzsimmons and write-in challenger Cindy Bailey.
Bailey took Baroncelli and the rest of the Board of Supervisors to task, accusing them of borrowing and spending money the county doesn't have.
"I don't believe the people whose taxes are paid to support county government are getting what they want," she said. "As a result, they're about to get a whole lot bigger tax bill."
Baroncelli pointed out the supervisors are court-ordered to resolve overcrowding at the old county courthouse. The county has a lot of issues with its infrastructure, she said.
