STRASBURG -- The Virginia Department of Transportation will discuss projects planned for Queen Street and Back Road (Va. 623) during public hearings scheduled for 4-7 p.m. Dec. 9 at the Strasburg Town Hall.
Residents can talk about the projects with VDOT officials and designers and submit comments then or up to 10 days later, according to a news release from the agency.
Plans for Queen Street include replacing the bridge over Town Run with a wider span, roadway and sidewalks, the release says, and the sidewalk will have a brick-looking design.
The Queen Street project is expected to cost about $1.6 million and advertising for it is to begin in 2015, the release says.
The Back Road project is for a 0.2-mile section of road near Va. 638, according to a news release from VDOT.
It is being done to reduce curves and hills, and improve sight distance by lowering the roadbed, the release says. The intersection will be realigned, it says.
That project is expected to cost around $1.3 million, the release says, and is expected to be advertised in spring 2011.
Written comments on the Back Road project should be sent to Jerry Copp, VDOT Edinburg Residency, 14031 Old Valley Pike, Edinburg, VA 22824-0278.
Comments for the Queen Street project should be mailed to Garrett W. Moore, Virginia Department of Transportation, 811 Commerce Road, Staunton, VA 24401-9029.
