Investigators seek two in coin theft

NEW MARKET -- The Shenandoah County Sheriff's Office has identified two men wanted for questioning in connection with the theft of a valuable coin collection.

Jason McMillan and Paul Boss are believed to be from Beaumont, Texas, and in their early 20s, Maj. Scott Proctor said.

He said investigators would like to talk to them about the December burglary of a New Market home in which around $100,000 worth of gold and silver coins were taken.

"I believe they [had been] conducting business in the valley," Proctor said. "We believe they're familiar with the valley."

He said the young men were doing sales work here, but couldn't give out many specifics regarding the coin case.

"It's early in the investigation, so the normal details, it would be inappropriate for me to release much more than that," Proctor said. "Apparently, they were stopped in another state and they had cash and a weapon in their possession."

He said the Sheriff's Office received information from another law enforcement agency that the men were stopped and released out of state on Tuesday and found to have a large amount of cash and a gun.

Proctor said the men are believed to be traveling in a 1998 Dodge pickup of an unknown color. Anyone with any information can call the Sheriff's Office at 459-6100.
