WINCHESTER -- Justin Shane Slater will spend the rest of his life in prison for the June 10 murder of his brother and ex-girlfriend.

Judge John Prosser sentenced Slater in Frederick County Circuit Court on Tuesday to serve life terms in the state penitentiary for each of two counts of first-degree murder and one count of breaking and entering into a home at night while armed with a weapon and with the intent to commit murder.

Authorities originally had charged Slater, 24, formerly of Buffalo Trail, Shawneeland, with two counts of capital murder for the shooting deaths of Gregory Scott Slater Jr., 28, of Valley Mill Road, Winchester, and Kayleigh Marie Plamondon, 22, of White Post.

The maximum penalty for capital murder in Virginia is death.

An agreement reached between the commonwealth and his attorneys called for Slater to plead guilty to nearly all his original charges except for the capital murder counts. Under the agreement, the capital murder count in Clarke County was reduced to first-degree murder, to which he pleaded guilty.

His capital murder charge in Frederick County was dismissed; he already had been charged in the jurisdiction with first-degree murder.

The deal allows Slater to avoid the death penalty.

The agreement called for Slater to receive the maximum sentences allowed for his remaining crimes, totaling 53 years.

Justin Shane Slater will spend the rest of his life in prison for the June 10 murder of his brother and ex-girlfriend.
June hasn't come this year yet!!!!

This is a poorly written story.
First, no year in the story.
Second, it starts in Fredrick County Circuit Court where he is to serve life terms in the state penitentiary for each of two counts of first-degree murder and one count of breaking and entering into a home at night while armed with a weapon and with the intent to commit murder.
I assume he got 3 life terms here for these 3 charges then?
Then you mention Clarke County and his guilty plea but DON'T mention what he got for this charge?
But then you mention the charges again from Fredrick county which you already discussed.

Please write this story better than it is so that an average person can follow it.

Hopefully I will never have to see the mug shot of this ruthless killer again.
