Board approves new heirs fees

FRONT ROYAL -- The Warren County Board of Supervisors recently approved new fees that will apply to recording a list of heirs. At their regular meeting earlier this month, the supervisors unanimously voted to assess a $25 fee on recording a list of heirs and real estate affidavits with the Warren County Circuit Court Clerk.

The fee will not apply if a will has been probated or there has been a grant of administration on a decedent's estate, County Attorney Blair Mitchell said.

Officials said the General Assembly approved legislation this year that permits local governments to assess the new fee. The fee would be in addition to the local probate tax of one-third the state probate tax on estates valued over $15,000.
