For anniversary, Warren planning ceremonial trees

The School Board received a request from County Administrator Douglas Stanley for permission to plant an oak tree at Skyline High School and Warren County High School.
Skyline High School is in the South River District while Warren County High School is in the Happy Creek District.
The planning committee has considered plantings at LeHew Park for the North River District, the Front Royal Golf Club for the Shenandoah District and Skyline Soccerplex for the Fork District.
"The Tree Stewards' expertise in proper planting location and species selection would be a valuable asset to our committee and we hope that we will be able to partner with them for the celebration," Rosser stated in an e-mail.
Rosser said the committee is considering a sixth commemorative tree planting at the Warren Heritage Society.
Sandra Wilson, incoming president of the Front Royal-Warren County Tree Stewards, said the volunteer group will begin formalizing plans at its annual meeting on Jan. 8. The final choice for the type of tree might differ at each location, Wilson said.
"We are delighted," Wilson said. "We would like to get trees involved everywhere."
Wilson, who was involved with the Royal Shenandoah Greenway, a joint project to connect the town's existing trails and public parks, said the commemorative tree plantings will help heighten awareness about the importance of tree plantings to the town and county's landscape.
"It is really important to keep these big trees because it can take a long time for [the trees] to get big," Wilson said.
The 175th Anniversary Planning Committee is scheduled to meet Monday at 3 p.m. at the Warren County Government Center.
