Man in custody after fleeing crash

WINCHESTER -- A Stephens City man is in custody after fleeing the scene of an crash Monday evening that closed both southbound lanes of Interstate 81 near Stephenson. Ray Cullen Hackett, 25, turned himself in at the state police office in Kernstown on Tuesday, according to Sgt. F.L. Tyler.
Trooper E.E. Mason reported that Hackett's 2000 Honda Accord went off the left side of the road, struck a guardrail and overturned in the median at mile marker 317.6. The driver escaped and fled the scene on foot.
Hackett is charged with felony hit-and-run and driving with a revoked license from a previous driving-under-the-influence offense, Tyler said.
Alcohol was not a factor in Monday's crash, he said.
