Man charged with abduction counts

WINCHESTER -- A Maryland man remained in jail Wednesday after he was accused of holding a woman from Hyattsville, Md., against her will in his vehicle for several hours Tuesday afternoon.

Ruben Garcia Ramos, 29, of Hyattsville, is charged with one count of abduction and is incarcerated at Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center, according to Sgt. F.L. Tyler of the Virginia State Police.

Ramos went to a business in Hyattsville around 1:30 p.m., made contact with a female acquaintance inside and enticed her to get into his vehicle, Tyler said. Ramos misled her as to where he planned to go when they left Hyattsville, according to Tyler.

Ramos and the victim ended up traveling eastbound on Va. 7 (Berryville Pike) and, at about 5 p.m., stopped at a light, Tyler said. The woman jumped out of the vehicle and ran to a nearby business, borrowed a person's cell phone and called her husband, according to Tyler.

The woman's husband, from his workplace in Northern Virginia, then contacted Virginia State Police. Authorities arrived four minutes later and began interviewing the victim, Tyler said.

Meanwhile, Ramos had turned his vehicle around and drove back to the place the woman had jumped out of the car, where he then was interviewed by police.

Trooper S.D. McCurry arrested Ramos on one count of abduction and took him into custody. Trooper T.H. Seagle and Special Agent Eric Deel assisted in the investigation.
The woman reported no injuries, Tyler said.
