Woman's 911 call thwarts burglar

WINCHESTER -- A Frederick County woman retreated to a bathroom Tuesday afternoon and called 911 after a man broke into her home with a crowbar, according to the Frederick County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies responded to the 200 block of Pony Path Lane in eastern Frederick County about 2 p.m. and arrested a suspect, Jonathan W. Everhart, 30, of Martinsburg, W.Va., in the basement, Maj. Robert "Robbie" Eckman said.

The woman, who was uninjured, stayed on the phone with an emergency communications operator until a deputy arrived, Eckman said.

The Sheriff's Office charged Everhart with burglary and grand larceny.

Eckman said Everhart admitted to committing another burglary nearby 20 minutes before. An audible alarm was activated at a home in the 2600 block of Welltown Road. The burglar used a crowbar, but nothing was taken, Eckman said.

Authorities also are investigating Everhart's connection to a burglary at 12:54 p.m. near the other two incidents in the 400 block of Rest Church Road.

A firearm was stolen from a home there. Eckman said it has not been recovered.
Also, a fourth burglary was reported at 3 p.m. in the 2200 block of Double Church Road in southern Frederick County, Eckman said.

A jewelry box with jewelry inside was stolen, he said. Deputies were still investigating that incident Tuesday night.
