WINCHESTER -- A former city teacher who had sex with an underage student could spend more time in jail if found he violated the terms of his probation.
Judge Thomas J. "T.J." Wilson IV sentenced Adrian A. Ellis, 31, of Winchester, in Frederick County Circuit Court on Thursday to three years in the state penitentiary for failing to register the Internet screen name, "giancamo," with law enforcement on Jan. 10. Wilson suspended two years and eight months of the sentence, the remaining time Ellis must serve in the Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center.
A hearing on a defense motion to suppress evidence in the commonwealth's case had been scheduled for Thursday. An agreement reached between the commonwealth and Ellis' attorney, Carroll "Beau" Correll Jr., called for the defendant to plead guilty to the single felony count. The judge accepted the agreement.
Wilson ordered Ellis to serve two years of supervised probation once released from jail.
The defendant has remained incarcerated at the jail since his arrest Jan. 11 on an alleged probation violation.
