*Investigators seek tips in vandalism of Clarke church

By Alex Bridges -- abridges@nvdaily.com

BERRYVILLE -- Authorities continue to investigate a vandalism at a historic Clarke County church which occurred earlier this month.

The Clarke County Sheriff's Office has not developed any suspects in the case and have asked for help in solving the case.

The sheriff's office received a call the morning of March 5 reporting a vandalism to the Wickliffe Episcopal Church on Wickliffe Road.

The investigation revealed the suspect or suspects used a crowbar to break into the church through a window, according to a press release issued Monday by the sheriff's office. Once inside, the suspect or suspects spread paint around on the floor and used masking tape "to make some obviously inappropriate insignias on the wall."

"References to Hitler and racial slurs were written on the tape," the release states.

Authorities estimate the vandalism caused about $600 in damage to the church, according to the release.

Anyone with information about the case may call the sheriff's office at 955-1234.
