An unusually large full moon, known as a perigee moon, rises over the Blue Ridge Mountains on Saturday evening. The event occurs when the moon’s orbit brings it closer to the Earth, making it appear about 14 percent larger. The next perigee moon will occur in approximately 20 years. Andrew Thayer/Daily
