WINCHESTER -- An inmate at the regional jail hurt two officers during an incident Monday night, according to a press release issued by the facility Wednesday.
The inmate, 26-year-old Brian Scott, assaulted the officers at about 11:10 p.m. in the Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center, the release states.
Scott removed the blade from a shaving razor issued to him for personal grooming shortly before the incident, according to the release.
The inmate ignored an officer's instructions to stop and relinquish the blade, the release states. The jailer approached Scott who then began swinging the blade "in an attempt to keep the officer at bay," according to the release.
"As the Officer backed from the inmate's cell awaiting the arrival of assistance, Mr. Scott leaped from his position on his bed, jumping on a second officer who had responded to the first Officer's request for assistance," the release states. "During the ensuing struggle to gain control of Mr. Scott, one officer received three lacerations to his arm while a second received a slight puncture wound to his shoulder."
Both officers were taken to Winchester Medical Center where they were treated and released.
Scott did not sustain injuries in the incident, according to the release.
The matter remains under investigation.
Scott had been incarcerated at the jail on a misdemeanor charge pending in Winchester Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.
