Woman's cause of death pending

Recommend ThisSTRASBURG -- It may be several months before investigators will know why 46-year-old Carol Ann McGinnis died in her home.
The cause of death is pending, and won't be available for eight to 12 weeks, an employee at the state medical examiner's office in Manassas said Wednesday afternoon.
Deputies responded to the 385 Cedar Hill Road home McGinnis shared with her fiance, Kris F. Finnerty, 54, at about 7 p.m. Tuesday after getting a call from a neighbor, Shenandoah County Sheriff's Maj. Scott Proctor said.
"Some neighbors became concerned [because they] hadn't heard anything from this couple in some time, and decided to check on them," he said.
Inside the home, Finnerty was found unresponsive, and McGinnis was dead, Proctor said.
"We're treating this as a death investigation," he said. "There was no trauma, no weapons. There's nothing to this point leading us to believe it was anything criminal in nature."
The home was tested for unsafe levels of carbon monoxide, but none were found, Proctor said.
He said Finnerty was barely responsive when he was found, and remained hospitalized at Winchester Medical Center late Wednesday afternoon. Investigators hadn't yet been able to speak to him, Proctor said.
